Farm Equipment Scams
- One of the most common farm machinery scams online is when the 'seller' will tell you that the item is abroad and will be shipped to you once the money clears. It should fairly clear that you'll never actually receive the item. The safest way to avoid these scams is to make sure you see the item in person before parting with cash.
- Scammers try everything they can to avoid having to meet you or in some cases even talking on the phone. You should always walk away at this point, any genuine seller of farm machinery for sale will try to make the sale as simple as they can.
- Scammers also target your items for sale to get at your money. Fake banker's drafts and cheques are used widely in these scams. Western Union is also frequently used. Sending too much money to you by accident is a common approach to these scams. They'll then request that you give them back the difference. It's not uncommon for them to request that you send the difference to their 'shipping agent' who is of course another scammer. Western Union is the common method they ask for you to do this.
- Your confidence is assured because the cheque or banker's draft will clear without issue. Once this is done you transfer the money as required. The bank will realise their mistake after a few weeks and then take the money back. You'll be without the money you sent on or refunded. If you sent the item too you'll have lost that.
